Since the start of the work of the Border Control Command of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan in 2017 and up to now, 26,865 wanted persons have been detained and handed over to the relevant state bodies, oxu.az reports with reference to the head of the Border Control Command Elshan Verdiyev.

According to him, a total of 86,123 operational tasks were carried out during this period. In 2,296 cases, persons were detained who attempted to cross the state border with forged documents, in 178 cases – with documents belonging to other persons, and in 19 cases – to cross the border secretly. Various decisions were made regarding 58,503 people who did not have documents entitling them to cross the state border.

A trial was held on the appeal against the verdict handed down against the former head of the Shamkir District Executive Authority, Alimpasha Mammadov, APA reports. Today, the decision was announced at a session in the Ganja Court of Appeal. The court sentenced A. Mammadov to 10 years in prison.

By the decision of the Ganja Court for Grave Crimes, the former head of the Executive Authority was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison. The court lifted the arrest on two properties of the former head of the executive authority, which were sold, and the proceeds from their sale were used to compensate for the damage caused to the state budget.

Alimpasha Mammadov was arrested in April 2021 during an operation carried out by the State Security Service (SSS). The former head of the Executive Power was charged under Articles of the Criminal Code 179.4 (embezzlement), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of funds obtained by criminal means), 308.2 (abuse of office), 311.3.2 and 311.3.3 (repeated bribe-taking, in a large amount). As part of the criminal case, the property of the former head of the Executive Power in the amount of 10 million manats was seized.

The prosecutor’s office of Azerbaijan is investigating criminal cases against officials of several companies involved in the export of agricultural and construction products and failed to return over 140 million manat in foreign currency earnings to the country, Report informs citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
