The grand scale of the global climate conference taking place in Baku leaves the attempts to denigrate Azerbaijan, this time in the context of COP29, in the deep shadow.

Having united in an attempt to sabotage a world-class event, circles whose actions are determined by double standards and political hypocrisy have accumulated all the resources at their disposal in order to achieve a boycott of COP29 or to belittle its significance.

This zeal looks extremely pathetic against the backdrop of the efforts of all progressive humanity gathered in Baku to find solutions to the most acute problem that threatens the destruction of our planet.

The best response to all these provocations was given by President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the opening ceremony of the COP29 Leaders’ Summit: “I have bad news for them: we have 72 thousand registered participants from 196 countries. Among them are 80 presidents, vice-presidents and prime ministers. Thus, the world has gathered in Baku, and we say to the world: “Welcome to Azerbaijan!”

The head of state regarded the unanimous decision of almost 200 countries to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan as a sign of respect for our country, as well as recognition of our active role in the international arena.

“Azerbaijan is a country where East and West, North and South meet. And it is not only about geography. We can build political, cultural, energy, trade and transport bridges between various international players. The mega-projects launched by Azerbaijan have already changed the energy and transport maps of Eurasia and led to the creation of fruitful formats of multilateral cooperation,” the Azerbaijani leader noted.
