The Baku Military Court has sentenced the defendants in the case of the theft of 143 million manats from the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Report informs. At the hearing chaired by Judge Fikret Aliyev, all the defendants – former head of the Defense Ministry’s Financial and Budget Department, Major General Nizami Mammadov, former head of the Air Force Financial Service, Colonel Jalal Kazimov, former head of the Ground Forces Financial Service, Bayram Bayramov, and former head of the Navy Financial Service, Vusal Alizade – partially admitted their guilt.

The court sentenced Nizami Mammadov and Bayram Bayramov to 11 years and 6 months, Jalal Kazimov to 11 years, and Vusal Alizade to 10 years and 6 months in prison. In addition, the accused are deprived of the right to hold financially responsible and managerial positions for a period of two years each.

The verdict also states that the arrested property of the accused is confiscated in favor of the state in order to compensate for the damage caused to the state.

The trial of the criminal case against the credit specialist of Bank of Baku and his relative, accused of illegally issuing loans through the Shirvan branch of the credit institution, has ended, Report informs.

Bahram Abbasov was charged under Articles 308.1 (abuse of office), 311.3.2 (repeated bribe-taking) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Aziz Rzayev was charged under Articles 32.5, 308.1, 32.5, 311.3.2 and 32.5, 313 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
By the court’s decision, Abbasov was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison with a two-year deprivation of the right to hold managerial and financially responsible positions in state bodies and local governments.

Rzayev was sentenced to eight years and three months in prison with a two-year ban on holding leadership or financially responsible positions in state and local government bodies.
