A sentence has been announced for former head of the Justice Ministry department Elshan Guliyev, who is accused of accepting a bribe, oxu.az reports with reference to Qafqazinfo. The Ganja Court of Grave Crimes sentenced former head of the Yevlakh District Registration Department of the Ministry’s Main Department of Justice Services E. Guliyev to 9 years in prison.

He was found guilty under Articles 311 (accepting a bribe (passive bribery)) and 312-1 (illegal influence on the decision of an official (trading in authority)) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It is noted that E. Guliyev was detained during an operation conducted by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General.

It was established that Elshan Guliyev, while working in the said position, using his official position, received a total of 4,000 manat as a bribe from certain individuals for issuing new birth certificates with changes in names and surnames, and also, using real or perceived opportunities for influence, illegally influenced the decision of an official for lifting the ban imposed by other government agencies on the departure of the accused, against whom a preliminary investigation was being conducted, for which he received 8,000 manat.

A hearing was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Ayten Aliyeva on the criminal case against Gunay Khaziyeva, accused of embezzling almost half a million manat from citizens, oxu.az reports. The hearing heard the testimonies of persons recognized as victims in the criminal case. It turned out that the persons deceived by the accused are close relatives.

Gunay Khaziyeva, under various pretexts, embezzled a total of 328,000 manat, including gold jewelry, from Sevinj Binnatova, Sevda Azimova, Nazila Azimova and Jamila Zeynalova at different times.

The next court hearing is scheduled for December 19, 2024.

A criminal case has been opened against the accused under Article 178.2.4 (fraud committed with causing particularly large-scale damage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A trial was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes on the criminal case of the owner of the Urmed help company Nurida Seidova, as well as Aynur Bayramova and Aysel Mammadova, accused of embezzling about a million manats collected for the treatment of children with thalassemia, Report informs. Due to a change in the composition of the panel of judges at the trial chaired by Judge Azad Majidov, the trial was resumed. Nurida Seidova partially admitted her guilt, while the rest did not plead guilty.

A response from the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee to the court’s request was announced at the meeting. According to the information, the Urmed help company still owes the Central Customs Hospital 245,265 manats, which were not transferred for the treatment of patients.

According to the victims, 35 thousand manats collected for the treatment of patients with thalassemia were used to pay for the treatment of another patient at the Bona Dea hospital.

The next court hearing is scheduled for December 18, 2024.

Suspects of theft detained

Suspects of theft have been detained in the Binagadi district of Baku, Report informs citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Thus, money and jewelry worth 2,700 manats were stolen from one of the houses in the territory of the M.A. Rasulzade settlement.

As a result of the activities carried out by the Binagadi District Police Department, previously convicted A. Rasulov, born in 1986, was detained on suspicion of committing theft.

In addition, police officers detained T. Fehruzlu, born in 1991, on suspicion of stealing a bag from a sports ground in the Rasulzade settlement, which contained money and a mobile phone.

An investigation is underway on both facts.
