More than 95% of foreign-made narcotics were smuggled into Azerbaijan through other illegal means, oxu.az reports, citing information on the results of the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking for January-November 2024, distributed by the permanent working group of the State Commission for Combating Drug Addiction and Drug Trafficking.

According to the information, 5 tons 313 kg 809.136 g (82.9%) of marijuana were confiscated during the reporting period, 4 tons 638 kg 315.436 g (87.2%) of which were enriched with psychotropic substances.

675 kg 493.7 g (12.7%) of plants containing narcotic substances were cultivated on the territory of the country (in greenhouses, basements, etc.).

During the past period of the current year, 2,864,953 wild plants containing narcotic substances were discovered and destroyed on an area of ​​1,439.6 hectares.

It is reported that in 10 months of this year, out of 59 foreign citizens brought to criminal responsibility, 25 were citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 10 were citizens of Russia, 13 were citizens of Turkey, 7 were citizens of Georgia, 1 was citizen of Uzbekistan, 2 were citizens of Ukraine, and 1 was citizen of the United Arab Emirates.
