Employees of the Agdash district police department carried out operations against suspects in illegal drug trafficking, oxu.az reports with reference to the Sheki regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. During the events, local residents Elnur Ahmedzade, Elvin Ismayilov, Ilgar Alakbarov and Elman Kerimov were detained. During searches at their place of residence and in the cars they were driving, a total of 2 kg of marijuana was found.

Criminal cases have been opened on these facts, the investigation is ongoing.

Drug smuggling to the Republic of Azerbaijan has been prevented, oxu.az reports with reference to the press center of the State Border Service.

On December 22, 2024, at 03:25, as a result of the interaction of the Coast Guard units of the State Border Service Command and border vessels carrying out the task of protecting the state border, the smuggling of a large batch of drugs into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was prevented.

During the inspection, 500 M-40 methadone tablets with a total weight of 745 grams, 23 kg 475 grams of marijuana, 270 grams of opium were found and seized.

Investigative measures are ongoing on this fact.

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan has completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal case against Martin Rian, who was arrested on charges of spying for France, oxu.az reports. The case has been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. Elmin Rustamov has been appointed Chairman of the Judicial Board.

The CEO of Merkorama LLC, Martin Rian, was arrested in Baku on December 4, 2023, on charges of espionage. According to the information, he was involved in secret cooperation and recruited by agents of the General Directorate of External Security of France, who were expelled from Azerbaijan as persona non grata.

A citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azad Mammadli, is also accused of treason in the criminal case.

It is noted that on December 20, 2023, after the exposure of an extensive spy network and a number of service failures, the head of the General Directorate of External Security of France (DGSE) Bernard Emier was dismissed from his post.

The case of large-scale fraud committed against the well-known businessman Fakhreddin Feyziyev will be re-investigated, oxu.az reports. The decision on this was made by the Supreme Court. F. Feyziyev is a victim in the criminal case. According to the prosecution, he was deceived by Elshan Ismayilov, who promised to establish a business in Dubai. As a result, Feyziyev lost 2.5 million manats.

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes upheld the charge and sentenced E. Ismayilov to 10 years in prison. However, the Baku Court of Appeal considered the sentence illegal. E. Ismayilov was acquitted and released from criminal punishment.

This decision displeased the prosecutor. After some time, a cassation appeal was filed. According to the conclusion of the court of higher instance, the act of the acquitted person did not receive a proper legal assessment. The acquittal was overturned and the case was returned to the Baku Court of Appeal for retrial.
