The Supreme Court has completed the cassation appeal against the verdict against Fatima Abdullazade, who was accused of negligence, oxu.az reports. At the hearing chaired by Judge Tahir Kazimov, the decision was read out, according to which the verdict was completely overturned. The case was sent for a new trial to the appellate court.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred on July 22, 2022, at the Goychay Central District Hospital.
Thus, a resident of the district, Vusala Guliyeva (born in 1993), was hospitalized in a medical facility with a high temperature. Despite the assistance provided, the patient died in the hospital. At that time, Fatima Abdullazade was the responsible doctor on duty in the emergency and urgent medical care department. After the incident, she was brought to criminal responsibility.
By the decision of the Goychay District Court, she was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of restricted freedom with the obligation to wear an electronic bracelet. The state prosecutor, dissatisfied with the verdict, filed an appeal, and the representative of the victim’s legal successor filed an appeal.
The Sheki Court of Appeal partially satisfied the complaint and protest, changing the verdict in terms of punishment. The accused was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to practice medicine for 1 year and 6 months. The verdict states that she will serve her sentence in a district-type penitentiary institution.
