In Baku, a man who paid 40,000 manats for a promised appointment to a position became a victim of fraud, Oxu.Az reports with reference to Qafqazinfo. A criminal case was initiated against Elshan Agayev (born in 1984) under Article 178 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
It turned out that E. Agayev deceived his friend S. Mamedov, promising to find him a job in the Cabinet of Ministers. In January-February 2023, he received 40,000 manats from the latter in the Narimanov district. However, his deception was later revealed. It was established that E. Agayev embezzled the money fraudulently.
For this reason, S. Mamedov contacted law enforcement agencies. He demanded 50,000 manat from E. Agayev, including interest on the transferred amount.
After the criminal case was initiated, E. Agayev was arrested. The case materials against him were sent for consideration to the Narimanov District Court. During the trial, he fully compensated the damage to the opposite party.
By the court’s decision, Elshan Agayev was sentenced to restriction of freedom for a period of 2 years and 6 months. He is prohibited from leaving his place of residence at night or participating in public events. The man was released in the courtroom.
