The date of the trial of Armenian war criminals held in custody in Baku has been announced, oxu.az reports. The preparatory court hearing on the criminal case is scheduled for January 17, 2025.

We remind you that on May 2, 2024, by the decision of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, 1,389 criminal cases investigated by the Prosecutor General’s Office and various investigative bodies of the republic in connection with some of the crimes committed from October 1987 to April 22, 2024, were combined into one proceeding. The investigation was conducted by an investigative team led by the Prosecutor General’s Office, including investigators from the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Customs Committee and the Military Prosecutor’s Office.

Employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) continue operations to suppress illegal drug trafficking, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press service of the department.

As a result of the event held on January 1 in the territory of the Absheron region, 43-year-old Vagif Safarov, who had previously been convicted several times, was detained. About 30 kg of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances were found on him.

It turned out that he purchased the drugs through an Iranian citizen, whose identity is being established by the investigation, placed them at different addresses in the Absheron region and planned to inform the drug dealer about this.

The detainee is one of the main drug suppliers in the country.

A criminal case has been opened on this fact, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of arrest for V. Safarov, the investigation is ongoing.

In December last year, 246.5 kg of narcotics and 833 tablets with potent narcotics were seized from illegal circulation in Azerbaijan, Oxu.Az reports, citing the State Border Service (SBS) review for December 2024.

In the course of the fight against smuggling, goods worth 2 million 200 thousand 92 manats were seized. Among them are medicines, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and cartridges for the Canik 55 pistol.

The trial of a man arrested as a result of another special investigation conducted by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan begins, Trend reports. This is Azerbaijani citizen Ivan Nikolaevich Svetlichny, accused under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (treason).

The case will be heard in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova.

As a result of operational activities carried out by officers of the Gazakh District Police Department, 33-year-old Musabi Piriyev, who was engaged in drug trafficking, was detained, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 2 kg of marijuana were found on him.

During another operation, 23-year-old Kanan Akhmedov was detained. About 2 kg of marijuana were also seized from the man.

According to them, they were engaged in illegal drug trafficking for profit.

Criminal cases have been opened on these facts. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of arrest for the suspects. Investigative actions are ongoing.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case of Zakhid Muradov and Naila Mamedova, accused of fraud against more than 100 citizens under the pretext of employment, has been completed, Oxu.Az reports with reference to Qaynarinfo, the case materials have been transferred to the Khazar District Court. The trial will be chaired by Judge Emin Rustamov.

According to the investigation, 75 people have been recognized as victims in the case. Z. Muradov and N. Mamedova were detained in September last year as a result of an operation carried out by the Khazar District Police Department.

The investigation established that the accused created fake employment groups on the WhatsApp messenger, where they presented themselves as authorized persons, and, having gained the trust of citizens, promised them work. For their services, they demanded a certain payment from applicants.

Z. Muradov and N. Mamedova were charged under Article 178.2.1 (fraud committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to the article, the perpetrators face a fine of 4,000 to 7,000 manat, restriction of freedom for a term of 1 to 3 years, or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years with possible confiscation of property.
