Last year, 88 percent of 14,925 registered crimes were solved in Baku.

As APA reports, this was stated at an extended operational meeting chaired by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, dedicated to discussing the state of affairs carried out by the Baku city prosecutor’s office in the field of combating crime, investigative work, prosecutorial supervision during 2024, and upcoming tasks.

It was noted that during 2024, preliminary investigations were conducted in the Baku city prosecutor’s office of 649 criminal cases, of which 194 were completed and sent to the relevant courts for consideration.

The Shirvan Court of Appeal has completed the hearing on the protest of the public prosecutor and the complaint against the verdict against Ogtay Veliyev, accused of embezzlement. As oxu.az reports, at the trial chaired by Judge Elshad Aliyev, a decision was read out according to which the appeal of the defendant’s defense attorney was fully satisfied, and the protest of the public prosecutor was partially satisfied. The verdict of the Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes was changed, O. Veliyev was given a suspended sentence, and he was released.

According to official information, the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case on violations committed at Fizuli Vocational School No. 1.

During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that the director of this educational institution, Ogtay Veliev, by abusing his official powers and committing official forgery, embezzled more than 119,000 manats of budget funds.

O. Veliev was finally charged under Articles 179.2.3 (embezzlement using one’s official position), 308.2 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code. The Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes sentenced him to three years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional facility. The man was immediately arrested in the courtroom.

As a result of measures taken by the employees of the Goranboy Regional Police Department, 29-year-old Arif Guliyev and 57-year-old Nofal Musayev, who worked in a home appliance store, were detained, APA reports with reference to the Ganja regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Thus, during the investigation, it was revealed that 148 TVs and 9 washing machines were stolen from the warehouse and sold for a total of 48,615 manats.

33 kg of drugs found in car in Baku

Employees of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan continue measures to suppress illegal drug trafficking, APA reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Thus, as a result of another event held in the Khatai district of Baku, 42-year-old Seymur Aliyev, previously convicted of drug-related crimes, was detained. About 33 kilograms of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances were found in the car he was driving.

He purchased drugs in the Bilasuvar district through an Iranian citizen, whose identity is being established by the investigation, and planned to organize their sale with subsequent placement at various addresses in Baku.

A criminal case has been initiated on the fact, a court decision has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for the detainee, the investigation is ongoing.

Moldova extradited a man who was wanted internationally for robbery to Azerbaijan, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office. Azerbaijani citizen Emin Nazim oglu Hasanov was put on the international wanted list for evading court.

He was charged under Article 177.2.3 (burglary) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the case is being handled by the Absheron District Court.

Hasanov was detained in Moldova and extradited to Azerbaijan accompanied by a special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.

Drug dealer who kept weapons detained

Employees of the Ismayilly District Police Department conducted another operation to suppress illegal drug trafficking, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the Sheki regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the information, a previously convicted 29-year-old local resident Farhad Huseynov was detained during the events.

About 8 kg of marijuana, as well as two illegally stored hunting rifles, were found in his car and at his place of residence. During the investigation, it was established that the detainee kept drugs for the purpose of sale.

A criminal case was opened on this fact, the court decided to arrest F. Huseynov, the investigation is ongoing.
