
The trial of the criminal case of the former head of the sports operations department of Baku City Circuit Chingiz Mehdiyev has ended.
As Report informs, the verdict was announced at the session of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Leyla Askerova-Mamedova.
According to the verdict, Chingiz Mehdiyev was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Since the damage caused in the case was fully compensated, the court applied Article 70 of the Criminal Code (suspended sentence) to him, assigning a three-year probationary period.
Also, in accordance with the verdict, the seizure of the accused’s property was lifted.
Earlier, the state prosecutor demanded that Chingiz Mehdiyev be sentenced to 10 years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions for three years.
According to the investigation, he is accused of embezzling about 400 thousand manats allocated for the organization of Formula 1 competitions. During the investigation, a preventive measure not related to arrest was chosen for Mehdiyev.
