The smuggling of a large consignment of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan has been prevented, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press center of the State Border Service (SBS).

Thus, on March 12, as a result of border search and operational activities carried out on the service territory of the border detachment “Goradiz” of the command of the border troops of the SBS, the smuggling of marijuana with a total weight of 46.1 kg from Iran to Azerbaijan was prevented.

Investigative and operational activities are ongoing on the fact.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a criminal case on corruption and influence peddling among officials of the Republican Endocrinology Center (REC). As Report informs, this was stated in a joint statement by the Prosecutor General’s Office and TƏBİB.

The investigation was launched by the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General’s Office based on the information received. The operational and investigative activities carried out established that a number of REC officials, taking advantage of their positions, illegally influenced the decisions of other officials.

In addition, having abused their official powers, they demanded money in various amounts for registering people with diabetes, providing them with various medications, and other services, the statement says.

Based on the collected primary evidence, a criminal case was opened under Articles 308.1 (abuse of office) and 312-1.1 (illegal influence on the decision of an official) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Currently, measures are underway to identify and bring to justice all those involved in these crimes, the departments said in a statement.

Based on the petition of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the competent authorities of Georgia, in accordance with the requirements of the Convention “On Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Cases” dated 22.01.1993, made a decision to extradite Azerbaijani citizen Ramil Mammadov, Oxu.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It is noted that in the criminal case, the preliminary investigation of which was carried out in the prosecutor’s office of the Khazar district of Baku, reasonable suspicions were established that R. Mammadov committed a crime under Article 120.1 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in connection with which decisions were made to bring him in as an accused and put him on the international wanted list.

R. Mammadov was detained in Georgia and today delivered to Azerbaijan accompanied by a convoy of a special unit of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.

As a result of the operation conducted by Khachmaz district police officers based on the information received, 39-year-old Rashad Dadashzade was detained. 2 kg of marijuana, 500 g of opium, a large amount of psychotropic substances – methamphetamine and methadone tablets were found and seized from him.

As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, in his testimony R. Dadashzade stated that he was recruited into drug courier activities by an Iranian citizen, whose identity is being established by the investigation. He admitted that he planned to take drugs from a hiding place and deliver them to different addresses in exchange for material reward.

A criminal case was opened on this fact, by the decision of the court, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for the detainee.

In total, over the past week, 10 drug-related cases were identified during operational activities in the Khachmaz region, and 3 kg of narcotic substances were seized from illegal circulation.
