18-year-old Kanan committed fraud, deceiving 22 people in Baku when buying mobile phones and mopeds. As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to musavat.com, the youth acted according to the same scheme.
Thus, he contacted people who posted ads for the sale of their phones and mopeds on online platforms and arranged a meeting. Kanan invited mobile phone sellers to famous restaurants and teahouses in the city. All his victims were selling iPhones. Having gained trust during the conversation, he took the smartphone in his hands allegedly to check the camera or test the Internet connection. Kanan organized meetings in separate rooms so that the owners of the phones could not see him leaving the establishment. The victims also had to pay the bills for food and drinks.
Kanan acted similarly when buying mopeds. Having expressed a desire to buy a vehicle, he took it under the pretext of conducting a test drive and disappeared from the meeting place. Kanan sold the stolen mobile devices at a reduced price. Some of them were confiscated by the police before the sale. Since the mopeds did not have registration documents, he dismantled them and sold them as spare parts.
According to the case materials, 17 people lost their phones, and 5 lost their mopeds.
During the trial, it turned out that some of the victims did not file a complaint, since their phones were returned before the sale.
The court found Kanan guilty and sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison.
