The trial of Urfan Guliyev, accused of organizing illegal gambling and tax evasion, has ended. As APA reports, the verdict was announced today at the Baku Grave Crimes Court chaired by Judge Leyla Askerova-Mammadova.

According to the verdict, the accused was acquitted on both charges and sentenced to 1 year, 10 months and 10 days in prison. This term was replaced by house arrest. At the previous trial, the state prosecutor requested 10 years in prison for the accused.

According to the indictment, Guliyev Urfan Ilgar oglu organized illegal gambling and online betting in Baku. The indictment states that at the time of the inspection, the turnover of the betting he organized exceeded 29 million manats. He was accused of receiving illegal income in the amount of more than 3 million manat and tax evasion in the amount of more than 1.7 million manat.

U. Guliyev was charged under Articles 193-1.3.2 (legalization of funds obtained by criminal means in a large amount, committed by an organized group), 213.3 (tax evasion in an especially large amount) and 244-1.4 (organization or conduct of gambling with the receipt of income in an especially large amount) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Police seize 12 kg of drugs

Police officers have found and seized 12 kg of drugs in Yardimli district, Report informs citing the Lankaran regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Previously convicted 40-year-old Zaur Rabayev and 43-year-old Haji Aliyev have been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking.

It was established that they had agreed with an Iranian citizen, whose identity is being clarified, to deliver the drugs obtained in Yardimli district to different addresses in Baku.

A total of 12 kg of heroin and marijuana were found in the hiding place in a hard-to-reach rocky area where Rabayev and Aliyev came to get the drugs.

A criminal case has been opened on the fact, and arrest has been chosen as a preventive measure for the detainees.

Persons who tried to smuggle drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan using a drone have been detained, Report informs citing the State Border Service (SBS).

It is noted that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was spotted in the service area of ​​the Lankaran border detachment, which dropped a small package and headed towards Iran.

As a result of the border search and operational activities, previously convicted residents of the Lankaran district Hasanov Anar Rasim oglu (born in 1988) and a resident of the Gubadli district Huseynov Razim Mehyaddin oglu (born in 1985), who was waiting for him in the car, were detained as suspects.

During interrogation, the detainees admitted that they arrived at the site to pick up 4 kg 504 g of marijuana dropped by a UAV. Investigative measures are ongoing.
