146 corruption-related cases completed and lodged in court
Investigation into 146 corruption-related cases against 224 persons have been completed and submitted to the courts for consideration over the first nine months of 2015, Kamran Aliyev, the chief of the Anti-Corruption Department under General Prosecutor, said at a meeting on Oct.14.
He mentioned that during the period, the department’s hot line (161) received 5,108 appeals, which mainly cover transport, construction and banking sectors.
Aliyev also noted that 146 criminal cases against 224 persons were submitted to related courts for consideration.
“Among these criminal case, 58 cases of misappropriation and embezzlement were opened against 87 persons, 37 cases of swindling against 48 persons, 19 cases of abuse of official powers against 33 persons, 9 cases of taking bribe against 23 persons, 6 cases of offering bribe against 10 persons, 9 cases of use of fake documents against 9 persons, 4 cases of forgery against 7 persons, 3 cases of misappropriation of official authority against 6 persons. Based on the cases submitted to courts, AZN 31,640,000 (32%) of the damage that amounts to AZN 98,571,000 was during the investigation. Necessary actions were taken for the rest of the damage caused to be paid for at the expense of the convicts’ seized property,” he added.
