Hearing on R. Mirgadirov’s case to be held behind closed doors
On 4 November 2015 Baku Court of Grave Crimes resumed the hearing on the case of imprisoned journalist Rauf Mirgadirov, APA reports.
The profile details of the accused person have been identified at the hearing presided over by judge Alisultan Osmanov.
Then Mirgadirov’s lawyers filed petitions for his lawyers’ sitting by him, commuting the pre-trial detention he was sentenced to, terminating the criminal case, withdrawing the evidences from the criminal case, and inviting David Shahnazaryan and Laura Bagdasaryan to the court as witnesses.
Public prosecutor Mubariz Miriyev asked the court to reject the petitions.
The public prosecutor also filed a petition for holding the hearing behind closed doors. The court rejected the petitions of the defendant’s lawyers.
However, the court upheld the petition for holding the hearing behind closed doors.
The hearing was scheduled for November 18.
Note that, Mirgadirov was detained last year on April 19 in Turkey and handed over to Azerbaijan, where he was charged with treason (Article 274). He was sentenced to three months’ pretrial detention. The term of his pretrial detention has been extended for several times since.
