Azerbaijanis in foreign prisons repatriated in the country

Some 240 Azerbaijani citizens jailed in foreign countries have been repatriated over the last five years, the Ministry of Justice told APA.

Azerbaijan has extradited 167 foreign prisoners to their countries over the last five years, said the ministry.

In line with cooperation on international law, the Ministry of Justice has stepped up efforts to carry out prisoner handovers by signing a number of agreements with Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Iran, Pakistan, China, and other countries. Azerbaijan is a participant in relevant European and CIS conventions.

According to information, ahead of the Novruz holiday 6 Azerbaijani citizens serving penalty in Iran have been handed over to Azerbaijan and 26 Iranian citizens to Iran.
