Prosecutor demands 10 years in prison for former deputy defense minister

Baku Court of Grave Crimes held on April 8, 2016 a hearing on the case of Mehman Salimov, who faces charges under the Criminal Code’s articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale) and 308.2 (abusing official powers), APA reports.

Salimov served as deputy defense minister of Azerbaijan on socio-political affairs from 1995 to 99.

During the hearing presided over by judge Zeynal Aghayev, a state prosecutor demanded 10 years in prison for Salimov.

Salimov’s lawyer filed a petition protesting against the composition of the court. The lawyer mentioned that no petitions filed by them have been upheld and his defendant’s rights have been violated.

However, the prosecutor asked the court to reject the petition.

Upon the consultation, the court declared the judicial investigation completed.

The hearing will continue on April 15, 2016.
