Police measures to prevent swindling on eve of the “Formula 1” Grand Prix
According to the press-service of the MIA, Azerbaijan’s law enforcement forces have detained four Cameroonian citizens for planning to defraud tourists on the eve of the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe which is due to take place in Baku on June 17-19, APA reports.
Afghan citizen Farzad Abdul Ahmad, who is living in Azerbaijan, appealed to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime operating under the Interior Ministry that unknown persons fraudulently took $50,000 from him under the guise of turning this money into $100,000 through specific chemical substances.
As a result of search operations, a group of Cameroonian citizens – Alphonse Touani, Patrick Arnaud, Ziepop Maxime Valery and Armel Gaetan, suspected of committing the crime, were detained.
The detainees said in their testimonies that they came to Azerbaijan to defraud tourists in Baku during the upcoming Formula 1 race through the abovementioned method.
Material evidence was seized from them and their houses.
Investigation upon the fact is underway.
