Criminal case initiated due to beating of TV reporters

Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office has released information on the physical violence committed against some employees of by “Azad Azerbaijan” Independent Television and Radio Company.

The district prosecutor’s office has investigated materials, which were submitted by Shamakhi district police, over the beating and insulting of the reporters while on the job in Shamakhi and breaking of their filming devices.

Investigations made it clear that Azer Ismayilov, employed as project manager in connection with the implementation of the “Yoxlama” project by “Azad Azerbaijan” Independent Television and Radio Company that started in April, and others employed for the project—Elgun Bayramli, Logman Ismayilov, Poland Akhundzadeh, Arif Guliyev and Ilgar Guliyev—were beaten at “Shamakhi” restaurant (Shamakhi district) around 8:00PM by administrator Huseyn Allahverdiyev and his nephew Elshad Osmanov for filming the restaurant.

A criminal case has been instituted under Article 163.1 (impending journalists in their legal professional activities) and 221.2.1 (hooliganism committed by group of persons or repeatedly). Relevant expert examinations as well as a  forensic medical expert examinations have been appointed and other necessary actions taken.

Investigation is underway on the fact.
