Detained wanted persons

In June 2016, Azerbaijan’s border guards detained 449 persons declared wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, the State Border Service told APA.

The border guards detained 39 people in 28 cases of violation of the state border.

Of them, 21 are citizens of Azerbaijan, 3- Nigeria, 3- Uzbekistan, 3- Guinea, 2 – Iran, 2- Cameroon, and one from each country such as Pakistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Ivory Coast. 
Five persons were detained in four cases in the green border over violating border regime and 31 detained in 22 cases in the Caspian Sea. Some 889 people were detained in 612 cases at the border checkpoints. 
The smuggling of drugs with total weight of over 3.8 kilograms was prevented last month.
As a result of measures taken, the smuggling of goods totally worth about AZN 142,745 in 67 cases including 2 rifles, a pneumatic pistol, 30 9-mm cartridge, 42 5,6mm cartridge, 5 16-mm cartridge, 15 detonators, USD 1560, AZN 2562, EUR 950, 24 003 boxes of cigarettes, 12 mobile phones, different medicines, alcohol drinks, food and consumer goods was prevented.
