Azerbaijan detains five over attempted gold smuggling

Employees of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service have detained five people for attempting to smuggle a great deal of gold pieces out of the country, the State Border Service told APA on 20 December 2016.

As a result of joint operations by the State Security Service, the State Customs Service and the State Border Service, the group -F. Allahverdiyev, F. Mammadov, A. Rahimov, E. Huseynov, and E. Seyidov— were detained on 18 December 2016, when they, on preliminary arrangement with foreign nationals, attempted to smuggle 2,145 kg gold ingots and other gold pieces out of Azerbaijan via the Bilasuvar border checkpoint.

Investigative and operational actions continue.
