State Security Service exposed and arrested spy network

During counter-intelligence activities undertaken by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan there was foiled an attempt by a citizen, Mukhtar Yagubov to leave the country. He was going to take out of Azerbaijan compact electronic media with the information gathered as a result of espionage on behalf of foreign intelligence services, Azeri Daily has been told by the SSS Department for Public Relations.

As a result of activities undertaken as part of the criminal case initiated on the fact of treason, in Baku and other regions of the country members of the criminal group were detained: Yaqubov Mukhtar Jamal oglu, Ahmadov Shakir Khanlar oglu, Zeynalli Zekeh Abysh oglu, Abbazzadeh Sabuhi Oqtay oglu, Nuriyev Hudashukur Majid oglu, Huseynov Kamaladdin Isahan oglu. By the relevant decisions of the Court in relation to them a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen.

There was discovered and confiscated correspondence with foreign intelligence agencies. There were identified the activities of the group on trying to get in touch with officials, community leaders, to infiltrate the other circles of Azerbaijan, which were carried out on behalf of foreign intelligence services. Members of the group also tried to gather confidential information about the activities of the security forces, the armed forces of Azerbaijan and events held in the country for security reasons.

At present, operational and investigative actions are continuing.
