Members of a criminal gang arrested for selling unsuitable meat
Members of a criminal group have been detained in Azerbaijan while selling 4 tons of horsemeat and beef unsuitable for consumption, 1News.az information internet portal reports.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, employees of the Department for Combating Organized Crime, with the participation of specialists from the Food Security Agency, carried out another successful operation. In the course of it, members of an organized group were exposed and brought to justice, which, having created a meat procurement point in the Khachmaz region, was engaged in the sale of beef and horse meat unfit for consumption.
Based on the materials collected, it was established that the group was headed by Azik Babaev, a resident of the Khachmaz region. He, together with members of the group Khatam Bayramov and Yalchin Babaliev, was engaged in the collection, supply and sale of the meat of dead horses and cattle.
To do this, Azik Babayev bought sick, unused and dead horses at a low price in Khachmaz and the surrounding area, and brought them to his farms in the Khachmaz region, where members of the group slaughtered the animals.
After cutting the meat, Azik Babayev sold it under the guise of beef to various public catering establishments in Baku.
Relevant examinations have shown that this meat is completely unsuitable for human consumption and poses a serious threat to human health.
A criminal case has been initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. With regard to the head of the group, Azik Babayev and Khatam Bayramov, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen by a court decision.
Operational-search measures are being taken to detain and bring to justice other persons associated with an organized group.
