Information of the General Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the “Terter case”
The General Prosecutor’s Office of the country has spread information in connection with the Terter case, APA reports quoting the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
It is reported that criminal proceedings have been resumed, initiated on the fact that in connection with the illegal actions of some military personnel of the military units of the Ministry of Defense located in the Terter, Aghdam and Beylagan regions. So, during May-June 2017, a group of servicemen of these units and other military units, contrary to the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Law, without having the appropriate authority, involved in the interrogation of persons whom they considered suspected of committing crimes, and used physical and mental violence, which led to the death of these persons and other serious consequences, from December 16, 2021, intensive investigative actions are being carried out in all areas by the investigation team, the procedural leadership of which is carried out by the First Deputy Prosecutor General. Over the past period, 163 new persons who were subjected to torture and other unlawful acts were identified and recognized as victims. Thus, during the preliminary investigation in criminal cases on the facts of torture, 281 people were recognized as victims.
According to the report, the final court decisions in 16 criminal cases against 16 persons were canceled due to the fact that the accusation of these persons of high treason was not confirmed, while studying criminal cases related to persons convicted of crimes against military service, cases were identified certain procedural violations.
