Trial for drug traffickers

The trial of Turaj Mammadova and her accomplices Vugar Aliyev and Hikmet Farajov, accused of drug trafficking, begins in Sumgayit, oxu.az reports.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed, the case has been sent to the Sumgait Court for Grave Crimes and transferred to Judge Hafiz Aliyev. The date of the preparatory meeting is not yet known.

58-year-old T. Mammadova, nicknamed “Pickpocket Tutu” and her accomplices were detained in October 2021 as a result of an operation carried out by employees of the Sumgayit city police department.

T. Mammadova, who spent about 20 years in prison under various articles of the Criminal Code, was found to have heroin during her arrest in a residential area in the Jeyranbatan settlement of the Absheron region.

During a search of her house, a large consignment of various drugs was found.

The daughter and son of T. Mammadova are currently serving sentences in correctional facilities. A few years ago, her husband was arrested with a large consignment of drugs, convicted and died in custody.
