Man charged with attempted murder of police officer sentenced

Sarvan Yagubov, accused of attempting to murder a policeman in the Bilasuvar region, was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison, oxu.az reports. The verdict was announced at a trial chaired by the judge of the Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes Ilkin Abdullayev.

Dissatisfied with this judgement, the convict filed an appeal. At present, the complaint is being considered in the Shirvan Court of Appeal.

The incident occurred on July 30, 2021 in the Bilasuvar region. S. Yagubov stabbed his acquaintance, a resident of the Jabrayil region, police sergeant Gurban Gurbanov during a conflict that arose between them.

On this fact, the prosecutor’s office of the Jabrayil region initiated a criminal case under articles 29, 120.1 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

S. Yagubov was detained as a suspect and brought to the investigation.
