President Ilham Aliyev got acquainted with the conditions in the new penitentiaries

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev got acquainted with the conditions created in the new modern penitentiaries in Baku, built for convicted women and minors, who are a vulnerable group of society. This was reported by haqqin.az with reference to the press service of the head of state.

Exemplary conditions were created in the new institutions, built instead of the penitentiary institutions built in the 1930s and did not meet the requirements of the time, rooms for rest, worship, a psychologist’s office and other premises were allocated, production sites were organized for convicts to engage in useful labor.

In both institutions, sports grounds have been created for the effective spending of their leisure time by convicts, the necessary infrastructure for their education and mastery of specialties. There is a library equipped with the necessary literature, a reading room, a computer room.

In the production sector, created in new institutions in accordance with the instructions of the head of state, related to the expansion of production sites and the involvement of entrepreneurs and businessmen in this activity, convicts will work in weaving, carpet, cutting, sewing and confectionery shops.

The two-story medical unit of the institution houses a diagnostic and treatment room equipped with modern equipment, a laboratory, a pharmacy, a pediatrician’s office, and utility rooms.

In the new penitentiary, a building was also built for visiting convicts with relatives. For short-term and 3-day, long-term visits of convicts with family members, there are separate rooms with all living conditions, a kitchen, places for walking.

In the two-storey building of the school, built on the territory of institutions, along with classrooms, there are labor rooms, computer and other sports halls. The conditions created here allow convicts, in particular minors, to study and master professions.

Thanks to the attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev, the construction of new penitentiary institutions for a vulnerable category of society – convicted women and minors is an integral part of the fundamental reforms being carried out in the country. The modern conditions created here will serve to ensure the rights of convicts, their effective correction and social adaptation.
