Detained for extorting a large sum of money

The preliminary investigation into the case of extortion from the former deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC Rafael Rakhmanov has been completed. It will be considered in the Baku Court for Grave Crimes by Judge Novruz Kerimov, APA reports.

Thus, according to the prosecution, the former brother-in-law of R. Rakhmanov, Elman Guliyev, demanded that he provide 100,000 manats as soon as possible, otherwise he threatened to disseminate in various media and social networks discrediting information known to him alone about the private life of a former relative and a list of real estate belonging to him.

Based on the complaint of the victim, E. Guliyev was detained. A criminal case was initiated against him under Article 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen.

R. Rakhmanov himself was the deputy head of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company Aydin Bashirov and was dismissed some time after the latter’s release from his post.
