Border guards prevented smuggling of a large consignment of drugs
Employees of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan stopped drug smuggling from Iran, oxu.az reports with reference to the press center of the SBS.
On June 7, 2022, at 22:15, on the territory of the frontier post near the village of Bartaz, Zangilan region, two unknown persons violated the state border from Iran towards Azerbaijan. The territory of the frontier post was immediately cordoned off.
The violators ignored the order of the border guards to stop and a warning shot in the air. In addition, they put up armed resistance. As a result of operational measures, one of the violators was detained. A package with 5.9 kg of marijuana was found on him. His partner, taking advantage of the darkness and dense thickets, ran back to Iranian territory.
On June 12, 2022 at 01:50, based on the information about the violation of maritime borders in the direction of Neftchala, the coast guard of the State Border Service sent patrol ships to the sea. With the help of radar, a floating craft moving at high speed was identified and taken under control. Measures were taken to detain him, enhanced security of the state border was organized and an inspection of the coastal territories was carried out in the direction of the movement of the floating craft.
As a result, two suspicious bags were found on the seashore near the village of Mayak, Neftchala region, in which 13 bags containing 22.5 kg of drugs, including marijuana, opium and heroin, were found, as well as over 1,500 tablets of psychotropic substances.
Based on these facts, operational and investigative measures are ongoing.
