Persons who carried out illegal excavations on the territory of a historical monument in Sheki were detained

On June 20, 2022, the Sheki district police department received information about illegal excavations in the territory of a historical monument in the village of Orta Zeyzid district, 1news.az reports with reference to the Sheki regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Police officers examined the scene, seized material evidence important for the investigation of the case.

As a result of operational-search activities, it was established that illegal excavations were carried out by residents of the region Shamil Kerimov and Bayram Agamamedov, who in their testimony said that they did not find any valuable historical objects during the excavations.

The fact is being investigated.

The portal notes that during illegal excavations, not a single part of the historical monument was damaged.
