Editor-in-Chief of the website detained on suspicion of blackmail

The editor-in-chief of the site was detained in Goygol on suspicion of blackmailing officials, trend.az reports citing the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.

Thus, as a result of operational activities carried out by employees of the Goygol Region Police Department on the basis of received applications, the editor-in-chief of the Demokratik.az website, a resident of the city of Goygol Osman Rzayev, was detained.

He is suspected of blackmailing the director of the central regional hospital, the head of the department of this medical institution, a doctor, as well as the head of the Irrigation Systems Department of the Goranboy region in June 2022, threatening them with the dissemination of information disgracing them. It is reported that Rzayev demanded various amounts of money from the said persons for non-dissemination of this information.

A criminal case has been opened on the fact under article 182 (extortion through threats) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
