Judicial-Legal Council: about half of newly appointed judges are women
83 judges have already been appointed, 40 candidates are in the process of being appointed. Women make up about 50 percent of newly appointed judges, Trend.az reports citing Javid Huseynov, head of the apparatus of the Judicial-Legal Council, who spoke at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Committee on Legal Policy and State Building.
He noted that taking into account the heavy workload, by decree of the head of state, the number of judicial positions was increased by 200 positions. The procedure for electing judges within the framework of the judicial reforms successfully carried out in Azerbaijan was approved in March 2021, and the performance of more than 300 judges was evaluated over the past period. About 50 judges were promoted, and about 60 were appointed to the Supreme and Courts of Appeal by the relevant decisions of the Milli Majlis.
Huseynov informed the meeting participants in detail about the issues submitted today for consideration by the committee based on the results of a comprehensive assessment of the activities of judges, related to the nomination, appointment of judges to the Supreme and appellate courts, as well as the transfer of judges from the appellate courts to the courts of first instance.
