Supreme Court of Azerbaijan turns 100 years old
100 years have passed since the establishment of the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports. On December 9, 1922, the 2nd session of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Azerbaijan SSR adopted the “Regulations on the judicial system in the Azerbaijan SSR”. The CEC of the Azerbaijan SSR adopted a resolution No. 8 of February 13, 1923 on the entry into force of the provision.
This resolution states that the Supreme Court begins its activities on March 1, 1923, but it was created precisely on February 13.
In accordance with Article 131 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Court is the highest judicial body for civil (including administrative and economic disputes), criminal and other cases related to the production of general and specialized courts.
The Supreme Court, as a court of cassation, administers justice in accordance with the procedural procedure established by law.
The Supreme Court is located in Baku, its jurisdiction extends to the entire territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
