Illegal import of large amount of jewelry to Azerbaijan prevented

On March 21, 2023, employees of the General Customs Directorate for Air Transport of Azerbaijan prevented an attempt to illegally import gold and jewelry on an especially large scale into the country, Trend news agency reports, citing the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

Thus, an Azerbaijani citizen who arrived on an Istanbul-Baku flight intended to cross the customs zone on the territory of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport through the Green Corridor system. The customs officer directed this passenger to the “red corridor” to inspect his luggage. When examining the luggage of a citizen, gold jewelry with a total weight of 4 kg 700 grams and an approximate value of 420,000 manats was found, which were hidden from customs control, that is, they were not declared to the customs authority either in writing or orally. The matter is under investigation.
