Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the effective implementation of UNESCO’s priorities and programs. Report informs, this was stated in a statement by Azerbaijan read by the Permanent Representative to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev at the 217th session of the organization’s Executive Council.
“Azerbaijan is committed to working with UNESCO and Member States in an open, transparent and inclusive manner. We actively support the organization’s initiatives in the field of intercultural dialogue, as well as the fight against racism and discrimination, and consistently promote dialogue between cultures and religions through global initiatives such as the “Baku Process” and “Peace for Culture,” the statement says.
The statement said that Azerbaijan, within its capabilities and as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, continues to contribute to the global agenda of peace, security and sustainable development. “But the dangerous trends still evident in the region, such as racism, discrimination and related intolerance, are cause for concern,” the statement said.

“Armenia’s destruction of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage is a violation of the cultural rights of every Azerbaijani, in particular the right to enjoy cultural heritage,” the statement said.
The statement also spoke about the liquidation of the so-called “regime” in Karabakh, the disarmament of illegal armed groups, the process of reintegration of the Armenian residents of the Karabakh region into Azerbaijani society, including the creation of a special portal for this, as well as the creation of a favorable environment for continuing dialogue.
