An official was arrested for illegally selling state land at a reduced price

Investigative and operational measures carried out by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan revealed illegal actions of an official who transferred state property into private ownership for a bribe, oxu.az reports with reference to a joint statement by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Economy.

The investigation has suspicions that the chief adviser to the Shirvan Territorial Department of the State Service for Property Affairs under the Ministry of Economy, Seyran Mamedov, received 22,500 manats from a citizen for declaring him the winner of an auction held by the auction commission chaired by S. Mamedov himself for the purchase and sale a state-owned land plot in the Neftchala region with an area of more than 1 hectare, and a construction project located on this site.

During a search conducted in the office premises of an official who was caught red-handed while receiving part of the required amount from a citizen, a number of evidence relevant to the case were discovered and seized.

Based on the collected evidence in the criminal case initiated in connection with this fact, Seyran Mamedov was charged under Articles 308.2 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) and 311.3.3 (receiving a large-scale bribe) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. By a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against him.

Investigative and operational measures are currently ongoing to identify all circumstances relevant to the criminal case.
