In Azerbaijan, four former officials were transferred to house arrest

The trial of 19 officials of the State Service for Real Estate and Municipalities who committed illegal actions during the privatization of land continues, Qafqazinfo reports. At a hearing held at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, the defendants’ lawyers submitted motions to release their clients under house arrest. They argued their petitions by saying that there are no circumstances requiring a trial of the six accused in custody. The panel of judges, chaired by Shalala Hasanova, granted the petitions against the four accused.

According to the decision, a preventive measure was taken against the former head of the Lankaran regional department of the Real Estate Service Parviz Alekperov, the former head of the Khachmaz territorial department Aydin Jafarov, the former head of the Gazakh territorial department Ekhtiram Eyvazov, the former chairman of the municipality of the village of Gokhmug of the Sheki region Etibar Eyvazov. They have been placed under house arrest.

The head of the sector of the State Real Estate Service, Ildirym Mamedov, and the head of the Shirvan branch of the service, Nazim Safarov, remained under arrest in the pre-trial detention center.

It is noted that the accused were prosecuted by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General’s Office. The indictment states that in 2020-2022, Ildyrym Mamedov, head of the sector of the state land management and geodesy department, conspired with other defendants to give a positive opinion on the ownership, use and rental of municipally owned plots. For this purpose, they received various amounts of money as bribes from individuals.
