In Baku, a lawyer set himself on fire

In Baku, a lawyer set himself on fire. The incident was recorded today at about 19:00 at the address: Narimanov district, Uzeyir Hajibeyov Street, 100 (opposite the administrative building of the Bar Association), APA reports. The lawyer of the Salyan Law Office, Mammadov Zaur Isa oglu, doused himself with a highly flammable substance and set himself on fire. He died at the scene.

Currently, prosecutors are examining the scene of the incident. The Narimanov district prosecutor’s office is conducting an investigation into the fact of self-immolation.

Chairman of the Bar Association Anar Bagirov told APA that Zaur Mamadov had no problems with the Bar Association: “Lawyer Zaur Mammadov had no problems with the Bar Association. We were also surprised why he would do such a thing. When I heard about the incident, I contacted the head of the Salyan District Lawyers’ Bureau. The bureau chief said it had been stressful lately. There were no problems between him and the board. There was no disciplinary case against him. An investigation is currently underway by the relevant investigative agency. In any case, the investigation will reveal why he resorted to such a step.” He expressed condolences to the relatives of Zaur Mammadov.
