The term of arrest of a former member of the Azerbaijani parliament has been extended

In relation to former member of the Milli Majlis (parliament) Nazim Beydemirli, accused of extortion, a proposal to extend his arrest was considered. As Trend reported on Friday, today in the Narimanov District Court of Baku, at a trial chaired by Judge Hafiz Kamranov, a presentation was provided, on the basis of which the arrest period of Nazim Beydemirli was extended by 1 month.

It is noted that former deputy Nazim Beydemirli was charged under Article 182.2.4 (extortion with threats committed in order to obtain property on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Later, the investigative body brought a new charge against Nazim Beydemirli under Article 182.2.2 – repeated extortion. He was brought into the investigation based on a citizen’s appeal. It was noted that, having contacted the police, the citizen stated that N. Beydemirli demanded 50 thousand manats from him in exchange for photographs compromising him. Despite the fact that the citizen gave N. Beydemirli an amount of 10 thousand manats, the latter stated that until he received the entire amount, he would blackmail the applicant’s family with these photographs.
