Editor-in-chief and journalist arrested on suspicion of extortion and blackmail

The police detained the editor-in-chief of the realmedia.az portal Ramin Gurbanov and his accomplice, who introduced himself as a correspondent for one of the newspapers Khayyam Gurbanly, on suspicion of extortion and blackmail, oхu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They were detained based on numerous complaints from citizens.

Based on this fact, in accordance with the article of the Criminal Code on extortion by threats, a criminal case was opened against both persons and they were arrested. At the moment, investigative actions in the criminal case are ongoing.

Let us note that they extorted money from citizens under the threat of disseminating defamatory information in the media. In some cases, they demanded money from victims to remove already published information.
