Court judgement in the case of a journalist

Journalist Jamil Mammadli was sentenced, oxu.az reports with reference to Report. In the Sumgait Serious Crimes Court, at a meeting chaired by Judge Fakhmin Humbatov, a judgement was read out, according to which J. Mammadli was sentenced to 6 years and 2 months in prison. The prosecutor asked the court to sentence the accused to 8 years and 3 months in prison.

It is noted that Jamil Mammadli was prosecuted in January last year. He was charged under articles 178.2.4 (fraud causing significant damage), 182.2.1 (extortion committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy), 182.2.2 (extortion committed repeatedly) and 221.2.2 (hooliganism associated with resistance to a government official or other person performing duties to protect public order or suppress a violation of public order) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
