Former official accused of corruption and abuse of power

The investigation of the criminal case initiated in the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General was completed on the basis of information received about the illegal actions of Rufat Hajiyev, who worked in 2017-2022 as the head of the Guba district department of education (now abolished) and until November 27, 2023 – as the head of the Guba district. Khachmaz Regional Education Department of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports with reference to information disseminated by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The investigation had reasonable suspicions that R. Hajiyev, during his tenure in office, for extending the term of an employment contract, appointment to the position of school director, as well as for promises not to conduct inspections in educational institutions, to provide general patronage in the service and other illegal purposes personally received from individuals a total of 65,000 manat. In addition, the former official was an intermediary in receiving 20,000 manats as a bribe by Intigam Hajiyev, who worked as the head of the audit sector of educational spheres of the audit department of social spheres of the Accounts Chamber, and also legalized illegally obtained funds in the amount of more than 175,000 manats, through various financial transactions from names of relatives.

Intigam Hajiyev was charged with abuse of official powers, leading to grave consequences, and receiving a large bribe. Based on the investigator’s petition and the presentation of the prosecutor who carried out the procedural management of the preliminary investigation, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest against him.

The criminal case was sent for consideration to the Sumgayit Court of Grave Crimes.
