Trial of Internet fraudster
A court hearing was held in the criminal case against Yashar Mammadov, accused of blackmailing women through fake accounts on social networks, oxu.az reports. Mammadov stole photos of women from the Internet, created fake profiles and posted their photos there. Then he contacted the victims on behalf of “Roman”.
Having gained their trust, the 19-year-old fraudster reported that his friend was a hacker and could delete fake pages for a fee. In this way, Mammadov managed to lure about 5,000 manats from gullible women.
At the trial presided over by judge of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes Sabuhi Huseynov, the defendant did not admit his guilt in any of the 9 episodes.
He stated that he did not threaten the women, and allegedly took the money he received for providing them with some web services and fulfilling orders. However, the investigation established that the defendant committed similar crimes against residents of other cities and regions of Azerbaijan.
