Foreign citizen sentenced to 12.5 years for espionage
A court in Azerbaijan sentenced foreign citizen Sohrabi Akbar Geshmat to 12.5 years in prison, finding him guilty of espionage for foreign intelligence services, Report informs. The decision was made at the trial in the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Oruj Jalilov.
According to the indictment, Sohrabi Akbar Geshmat tried to attract Azerbaijani citizens to cooperate with the intelligence services of a foreign state, collected information about strategic facilities and transferred it to another country.
The Investigation Department of the State Security Service charged him under Article 276 (espionage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
