New defendant in Defense Ministry corruption case

Jabrail Orujov, who previously held the position of head of the financial service in various military units, has been brought to criminal responsibility for embezzlement of funds in the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, oxu.az reports. The criminal case against Orujov, the preliminary investigation of which has been completed, has been sent to court and transferred to the proceedings of Baku Military Court Judge Bilal Mammadov. Orujov is charged under Article 179.4 (embezzlement on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Jabrail Orujov testified as a witness in the trial on the theft of 143 million manat in the Ministry of Defense against the former head of the Financial and Budget Department of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Nizami Mamedov, the former head of the Financial Service of the Air Force, Colonel Jalal Kazimov, the former head of the Financial Department of the Ground Forces, Bayram Bayramov, and the former head of the Financial Service of the Navy, Vusal Alizade.

Over the past period, Orujov has not compensated his due share of the total damage caused to the state budget.
