Court decision on the case of a French citizen who intentionally damaged the property of the Baku metro
The trial on the appeal against the verdict against French citizen Clerk Tego Hugo, who secretly entered the depot of the Baku metro and painted several cars, has ended, oxu.az reports. The accused spoke at the trial in the Baku Court of Appeal chaired by Judge Ibrahim Ibrahimli. He noted that he does not know the laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AR), but pleads guilty.
The accused informed the participants in the trial that he addressed a letter to the head of state with a request for pardon: “I sent a letter with a request for pardon to the President of the AR, as well as to the leader of France. I understand my guilt, I ask the court to pardon me, or, as in the case of my comrades, to replace the sentence with a fine.”
Then the court retired to deliberate. He did not satisfy the appeal and left the verdict of the court of first instance unchanged.
Earlier, the Narimanov District Court sentenced a French citizen to 3 years in prison. His accomplices, De-Saint Guent Ismael and Khan Paul, were fined 6,800 manats each. The damage they caused to the metro was fully compensated.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on the night of March 30, 2024, foreigners illegally entered the depot of the Baku Metro Closed Joint-Stock Company and intentionally damaged state property.
The criminal case was investigated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. Clerk Tego Hugo was arrested for three months by a court decision. Non-arrest measures were chosen for the other defendants.
