Fraud with citizens’ bank cards

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan has addressed citizens in connection with the increasing number of cases of fraud with bank cards, oxu.az reports with reference to the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Elshad Hajiyev.

According to him, bank employees never request a card code, PIN code or other secret data in an SMS from the bank. Only fraudsters are interested in such information.

Hajiyev noted that recently a scheme has become widespread, when attackers call from foreign numbers, introduce themselves as bank employees and, under the pretext of “unauthorized access to the card”, lure confidential data from cardholders. On December 19-20 alone, funds from citizens’ bank cards in the amount of 50 to 50 thousand manats were stolen in this way. The total amount exceeded 150 thousand manats.
