Trial against person accused of embezzlement completed

The Shirvan Court of Appeal has completed the hearing on the protest of the public prosecutor and the complaint against the verdict against Ogtay Veliyev, accused of embezzlement. As oxu.az reports, at the trial chaired by Judge Elshad Aliyev, a decision was read out according to which the appeal of the defendant’s defense attorney was fully satisfied, and the protest of the public prosecutor was partially satisfied. The verdict of the Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes was changed, O. Veliyev was given a suspended sentence, and he was released.

According to official information, the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case on violations committed at Fizuli Vocational School No. 1.

During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that the director of this educational institution, Ogtay Veliev, by abusing his official powers and committing official forgery, embezzled more than 119,000 manats of budget funds.

O. Veliev was finally charged under Articles 179.2.3 (embezzlement using one’s official position), 308.2 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code. The Lankaran Court for Grave Crimes sentenced him to three years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional facility. The man was immediately arrested in the courtroom.
