Ministry of Internal Affairs: Cybercriminals stole over 22 million manats from citizens’ bank cards last year

Last year, cybercriminals, in particular those operating from abroad, stole over 22 million manats from the bank cards of Azerbaijani citizens. As Report informs, this was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The department emphasized that in total, 16,804 crimes were registered during the year, the total amount of damage caused was 22,442,838 manats. Fraudsters used various cyber methods to steal money.
The statement notes that each cybercriminal case was analyzed, the results indicate that the money was stolen only after the attackers received the personal data of citizens’ bank cards.
“Card holders, having believed the demands, offers and promises of unknown persons from fake foreign numbers, profiles and pages, without checking their intentions, provided personal data and followed suspicious links. The Ministry of Internal Affairs once again calls on citizens to be vigilant when making online payments, to be wary of all suspicious offers, not to answer unknown calls and messages, not to follow dubious links,” the statement says.
